JP0177 Seto chawan

Teeschale chawan

H. 6 cm, D. 11,5 cm

Japan, späte Edo-Zeit
1. Hälfte 19. Jahrhundert

This chawan is a fine example of the mingei (folk art) productions of the Seto kilns in the first half of the 19th century during the late Edo period. It is decorated with pine needles in underglaze iron with patches of pale underglaze blue on the typical Seto cackled cream ground. The rim has two traditional Japanese gold lacquer (kintsugi) repairs.
